Description: Estate FindWilliam Wilhelmi, (b. 1939)Ceramic Sculpture 1978 We offer a ceramic sculpture crafted in 1978 by the ceramic artist William “Bill” Wilhelmi. The sculpture was hand thrown with a matte finish of tans and brown coloration. The surface is encrusted with coarse sand. The anatomical opening is flanked with two Wilhelmi signature scrolls in a gold luster glaze.The base is hand inscribed with the artist’s initials “WW78”. As seen in the photographs, there is a firing crack on the base.The sculpture weighs 4 pounds 2.7 ounces and measures 4 3/4” in height, 8 1/4” in length and 8” in width.The ceramic sculpture by William Wilhelmi is presented in very good vintage condition. Provenance David Starr Chapman, American (1958-2023)Raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, David would tell stories of spending his summers at his grandparents home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In 1964 Elizabeth Taylor moved next door when Richard Burton was filming Night of the Iguana and she would make grilled cheese sandwiches for David and his brother. David later studied ceramics under Bill Wilhelmi in the 1970s and collaborated on many pieces with him. David’s artwork included ceramics, sculpture and silk screening. Many of his ceramics were signed with a five point star flanked by D and C.
