Description: Vintage Sterling Bird Brooch 1940s Moonstone Belly Bird Of Paradise A lovely piece of sterling silver 1940's costume jewelry, a beautiful Bird of Paradise. Made in sterling silver with just a hint of the fine gold wash remaining. The stones are a sky blue rhinestone in a brilliant cut for the eye and a glass cabochon cut referred to as moonstone. Dimensional and detailed with feathers and features stamped in. A built in pun back features the barrel slide, roller clasp typical for the era. These sterling pieces were often resulting from the war efforts, when many types of metals were needed and reserved to supply arms manufacturers and meet the needs of the military forces. With very few options left, costume jewelry makers turned to sterling; a more cost effective alternative in the day. A truly lovely piece for collectors and lovers of good costume jewelry. Some of the finest examples hail from the 1940's. Marked "Sterling" on the back. All original. It is very hard to find this piece complete, without missing stones. In very nice vintage condition, natural patina, some loss of the gold wash. Clasp is secure with no issues. See photo's for most accurate visual description.
