Vintage Crocodile Skin 'Martinique' Peep Toe Platform Sling Back Shoes, Size 8a

Description: Vintage Crocodile Skin Peep Toe Platform Sling Back Shoes from Bullock's Los Angeles. Martinique is the Maker and it says Custom. Purchased in 1950. Size: Stamped 8a as shown in the photo. These are very narrow shoes. Because they are adjustable straps a slightly smaller foot could probably also wear them. Please measure your shoes and see if they are a match! These are stamped 8a to indicate they are narrow width. I have tried my best to show the measurements of the actual shoe. I have consulted with two different shoe experts who say they are very well made shoes in great condition, but people were smaller back then and their feet were too. My Mom stood about 5'5 and was rather slender at the time. I guess she just had narrow feet. These are My Mother’s wedding shoes, which she purchased in 1950 at the famous Bullocks Department store in Downtown Los Angeles. She did wear them and they were her best shoes up to that point, and she told me she really loved them. Mom took very good care of her things! They are extremely well preserved. The skin is still soft and shiny with only one little scuff at the back of the left heel, as pictured. The buckles are both very stiff as they haven’t been adjusted in so long. I think you will be able to move them if you work in some leather conditioner, but the shoe repair man cautioned me that those tend to darken the skin, which is why I have not done so. Overall the condition of these is excellent! The outer skin is real crocodile and is soft and supple with no visible cracking. The soles and lining show some wear but are all overall in great shape with lots of wear to offer you. One of the shoe liners is coming up a little on the outermost edge of the lining, (see picture) but could easily be re glued down if you want to. OR you could take it to an experienced shoe repairman and I don’t think it would be very expensive to address. If you can wear these I think you’re gonna love them! They would look so gorgeous on! Very classy vintage - Great with a dress or slacks! Size: The interior stamp shows 8 A. Please be familiar with the way this type of shoe from this era fits (KNOW YOUR SIZE!) Mom told me she wore a size 8 narrow shoe and I clearly see an 8a stamped on here the inside lining. As I do not take returns, please please, know your real size to make sure they will fit you! I am picturing the various stamps inside the shoe here as well as I can so you can see the condition of the lining and what the makers marks are. Because the way things were done back then is a little different than we are used to now, I am not exactly certain as to what the stamp is indicating besides the size, it clearly says 8a but there are other numbers I don't know the meaning of as in every shoe...but if you are familiar with vintage shoes you will probably be able to tell. They are very narrow for sure! Measures: Interior is 9 1/2” long by 2 1/2” wide at ball of foot, The interior heel measures 1.75” at the widest part on the interior liningI measured the shoes three times to get an accurate measurement. The length is 9.5” from heel to toe, and is 2.5’ wide at the base interior ball of foot. The interior heel measures 1.75”wide. The platform rise is .75” and the heel measures 5” from top to bottom. The soles are leather and in good shape with only one slight scuff on the alligator skin on the left top heel – a little polish would cover it easily. As it stands the scuff is barely visible. See the pictures. Condition: Very Good with some evidence of age and some light wear on sole, skin is nice and supple for age with a few wrinkles in the skin from age and wear. As I already mentioned, I see a bit of wear on the back of left heel edge that can be touched up with some polish. The leather soles have some light cracking under the heal, zoom in on some pics and you will see it. I think it’s where the soles were joined together. It’s barely visible and I don’t think will be a problem. And I already mentioned there is some liner lift on one shoe that could easily be glued back down. See pictures for details. NOTE on color of leather: Mom called the color Sable, I think you could also say Cognac. The veins are a little darker in the skin as you would normally expect from this type of skin. It’s a beautiful shiny, rich brown, the pictures I took are very accurate on my monitor which is calibrated. I have taken high res pictures so you can zoom in for detail, and I encourage you to do so. I put the white backgrounds and yellow tissue paper to try and show you a good example of how the color really is as well as I could. The leather is in great shape and is a rich beautiful color and they show well in real life. I have tried to use rulers in some pictures to show you the precise measurements and I have really tried to be as detailed and specific as possible. Please message me with any questions or information that you may have. I strongly recommend that if someone is hoping to wear something to a specific event that they check with me before hand to make sure that there is sufficient time to get the item if you need it by a specific date. I will ship these at my cost via USPS Priority 2-4 day mail the day following your payment.Thank you for your interest and reading this!
