Description: Very interesting heavy textured oil painting signed Villon. The thickness of the oil varies from the thinnest in the trees and people to the thickest in the protruding structure. The tall darkened winter sky is medium and conveys a feeling of downward (or upward?) motion. The white background splits into two with some of the zombie-like figures walk off toward the light on the left while some walk to the (Basilica?) on the right and still others, possibly undecided, remain closest to the artist's signature. Provenance: Single previous owner believed it was purchased at Montmartre, Paris on or before 1970. Thought the subject represented the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur or Basilica of the Sacred Heart or possibly the minor Basilica that is part of the same structure. Condition is excellent except for light aging seen in white area that could be cleaned to brilliance but perfectly fine as is. Paint is stable, very little to no craquelure.
