Description: Wonderful and rare edition of Sir Walter Scott's 'The Monastery', published under the Collins Classics Illustrated Pocket Series. Featuring deep red cloth binding with gilt spine, rich maroon end-papers and beautiful thin pages. This jacket is the red and black of the earliest volumes, dating it to around 1910-1915. The spine still has the applied 2/' price label. Condition is fantastic; a smattering of age-related browning to the pages. The original dust jacket is present and despite being made of almost onion-skin thin paper is barely worn, having been well protected by a previous owner with non-adhesive archival film. The book itself shows almost no shelf wear, corner bumps or any other major condition issues.
