Description: This listing is for a large and finely executed portrait painting dating to the 18th century. The painting depicts a distinguished gentleman in formal attire and comes house in a very nice wood frame. One the stretcher of the painting we found some writing that says "Hoppner , Mr. Gr.....? , and the ex Ag....". The Mr. is most likely referencing the gentleman depicted and the "ex" is most likely referring to the collection it came from. The painting is done on canvas and has been relined. There is evidence of a split and inpainting in the background on the right of the figure. The sight of the painting measures 29.5 x 24.5" and the frame measures 37" x 31.5".
