Description: Up for auction is a vintage Stewart Hobbies model of an EMD F7A Phase 1 (Production l949-1951). This model has a KATO of Japan mechanism and comes with the trucks brake cylinders as separate parts that need to be added to the trucks to complete the model. This Phase 1 F7A (early) features horizontal grills and louvers, 36" dynamic brake fan, dual headlights and the rear roof overhang. The model also has removable and changeable and lightable number boards. Kato drives are known for their quiet operation and their durability. DCC is easily added as many receivers are made to fit the Kato chassis. The model has decent weight and is a very good puller. I list this model as like new but with the body lowered and the Kadees added it is actually better than new. I have added the special Kadee couplers for this model, but found the model sat about 6 scale inches too high, so I lowered the body on the trucks to compensate. The model now has couplers at the correct height and looks much better with the body lowered. The chassis on this model can be used with most popular F7A shells like Highliners, Globe, Bachmann, Athearn or Intermountain with little or no modification.
