Description: St Rocco Holy Medal on 24" Chain As a dog lover myself, this is one of my favorite saints! It has a wonderful detailed image of St Rocco, kneeling with a dog by his side. The medal is 7/8" tall, oval, nickel silver from Italy and is brand new, nice and shiny. Has "Pray for us" and "Italy" on the back. It comes on a 24" continuous stainless steel chain and is gift-boxed. We also include a prayer card for St Rock plus a gift bag and tissue paper for gift-giving. This would make a great gift for your dog-loving friends; especially someone who is into dog sports or professions - agility, rally, dog shows, obedience, hunting, tracking, search and rescue, dog rescue, dog breeding, animal shelters, veterinarians and technicians, etc. St Rocco, also known as Roch, Roc or Rock, was a mendicant friar who traveled around during the middle ages, doing good works. During an epidemic he cared for those with the plague and became sick himself. Not wanting to spread the disease or bother anyone with his care, he went into the woods to quietly die. A dog found and befriended him, and brought him food and water which the dog had stolen from his master's table. The master followed the dog one day to find out where he was taking the food, and found St Rocco, took him home and nursed him back to health. Turns out he didn't really have the plague, but had a bad knee wound, which is why he is also the patron saint of knee ailments. He is also the patron saint of epidemics, skin diseases, second-hand dealers, surgeons, grave diggers and bachelors.The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper.
