Description: American democracy is in trouble. Billionaires buy political offices, politicians use gerrymandering and voter suppression to fix elections and special interests run roughshod over majorities. If that is not enought, civility and bipartisanship are endangered species while foreign governments meddle in our elections. If we do nothing, the whole government could be brought to its knees. A practical, non-partisan handbook for concerned citizens and policy makers who want to take back the helm and learn how to make American government more democratic. Saving American Democracy has the ideas and answers you've been searching for -- essential reading for all who believe in democracy. Written by a political scientist with real-life experience in the trenches of American politics, it offers not just a clear civics lesson but a roadmap for achieving real representation of the people. Jeffrey R. Orenstein earned his B.A. from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, all in political science. His first career was in education, starting as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Kent State University in Ohio in the 1970s and taking an early retirement as a full professor 25 years later. He is the author or co-author of several books in the field, including Fixing American Government (Self-published, 2015), You Can Write A Book: How To Write What You Know and Self-Publish Your Way to Success (Sarasota, Suncoast Digital Press, 2013), co-authored with Barbara Bingham, An Introduction to Political Theory (New York: HarperCollins, 1993), co-authored with Robert Booth Fowler, the University of Wisconsin- Madison, U.
