Description: A rare opportunity to buy an original antique chromolithograph after well listed American artist Samuel A. Kilbourne (1836-1881). It one of a series depicting Game Fishes of the United States which Kilbourne completed in his final years and which are considered by many to be the most beautiful fish depictions ever published. This shows the very lifelike Large Mouth Bass lying on a river bank amidst finelydepicted plants, the river and trees visible beyond. Signed and dated lower left in the plate 'S.A. Kilbourne 1878'. This fine quality chromolithograph was published by Armstrong & Co of Boston, a well known company which specialised in the then relatively new art of chromolithography which required each colour to be printed separately. It is in excellent condition, has been trimmed to the image and is laid to card. Presented with an ivory card mount with complementary coloured hand drawn edging. The mount is in excellent condition. Measures 57.5 x 74cm including the mount, the print only is 36 x 52.5cm. Another impression of this chromolithograph was recently offered elsewhere for $950 whilst in 2018 Christie's of New York sold a set of 20, each mounted to card like this one, for $7000.
