Ornament below Mint: Constantinople Size: 33.3 mm Weight: 15.79 grams The reverse of this millennia-old Byzantine Roman coin (in Greek) reads: "Jesus Christ, King of Kings". Great detail for type, some cleaning scratches and oxidative encrustations remaining. Basil II devoted his reign to fighting Bulgarians, Fatimids, Georgians and the western principalities. At the Battle of Kleidon in 1014 CE, he acquired the name Bulgar-Slayer (Bulgaroktonos) when, in the name of God (!), he captured and blinded 14,000 Bulgarians.
