With its charming red ruffle collar, intricate hand-painted gold outlined pockets with purse and its painted red flower, and gold painted buttons details, this Shawnee cookie jar is a unique addition to any kitchen or home decor collection. Bottom marked “USA” (identified as mark and made by Shawnee). Red color is rare because the thicker red glaze for the collar was more difficult to kiln fire, particularly with laying properly on the collar and obtaining an even firing of the glaze compound on the collar without also scorching or heat stressing the underlying porcelain ceramic. Which is why not a lot were produced. Excellent pre-owned condition. Small factory glaze imperfection left edge of collar. No cracks, chips, stains, discoloration, or crazing.
