Rare Magnificent Wedgwood Black Basalt Gold Arabesque Minerva Bust (late 1700s)

Description: Rare antique Wedgwood black basalt Bust of Minerva with gold arabesques (created based on the Boulton patent, c.1769, "the purpose of ornamenting earthen and porcelain ware") on a waisted circular socle. It is in excellent used condition without any noticeable chips, cracks, and/or repairs - only age appropriate ware. Bust is marked: "WEDGWOOD" and "Minerva"; pedestal is marked "WEDGWOOD" and other potter marks. Both "WEDGWOOD" marks (bust & pedestal) seem to be impressed by using individual letters. Based on our research, we believe that this is a very early Wedgwood piece, manufactured decades before the era of bronzed basalt figurines made in small quantities around 1875.
