Description: Photograph Notes: The path through the valley crosses the River Lud at about the halfway point, and just slightly north on the opposite bank can be found this impressive structure, the Pahud Memorial Fountain - see: http://www.hubbardshills.co.uk/history.phtml In 1875 Auguste Alphonse Pahud, a Swiss teacher, moved to Louth and married Annie Grant of Withern. She died at a young age. He was heartbroken and eventually committed suicide. His estate was passed to seven trustees to distribute. They then purchased the Hills for the sum of 2,025 including the reservoir, watermill and garden; they also purchased further land at the southern end of Fishers Hills to extend woodland on that side. Hubbards Hills were purchased to honour Pahuds wish to create a memorial for his beloved Annie, and the trustees proceeded to establish in the Hills an Edwardian pleasure garden, country park and the Pahud Memorial Fountain.
