Description: This is an original Paul Reed Smith Swamp Ash Special (SAS). This is the real thing. This is NOT one of the Korean-made SE models, which do NOT have the original USA-made pickups, and do NOT sound or play the same. This is also not the 25th edition SAS with the Narrowfield pickups which ruined the concept of this guitar. If you have done your homework, you will know that the early models of this monster guitar (Paul's second-greatest achievement ever) are the only ones to acquire. The early models are the single most versatile guitars Paul ever made. But only the early models. The later models (post-2007) do NOT sound the same or play the same, because they used inferior pickups. The original SAS creates sounds and tones that you will never find anywhere else, yet it will cut through any mix, live or in-studio. The only genre of music for which this guitar is not well-suited is death metal. Other than that, this guitar makes better Les Paul tones than a Les Paul. Better Tele tones than a Telecaster. Better Strat tones than a Stratocaster. Plus, so many other tones you cannot get anywhere else. This guitar was really meant for the studio. It stands out more than any other guitar you have, and that is not an exaggeration. This is the guitar you take with you to a desert island where you are only allowed one guitar. This will be your first choice. There is a reason these original Swamp Ash Specials sell for a premium price. They are literally one of the best guitars ever made, by any company, and they are very rare. This particular SAS is a one-of-a-kind, and is the most rare of them all. Go read a review and some quotes from actual owners of these guitars - https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric_guitars/paul_reed_smith/swamp_ash_special/29042/#comments Now go to the Model History of PRS Guitars and find out why you want a Swamp Ash Special manufactured between 1996-2007: "SWAMP ASH SPECIAL: 1996 – 2009, 2011-12. Swamp Ash Body, maple neck, rosewood board, McCarty pickups (1996-2007), Swamp Ash pickups (2008-2009), Narrowfield Pickups (2011-12) Seymour Duncan Vintage Rail middle pickup (1996-2009)." What truly makes this guitar the best are these three things: The pickups, the pickups, and the pickups! The McCarty pickups are legendary. They are essentially exact models of 1950's Les Paul pickups. Then you add the Seymour Duncan Vintage Rail pickup in the middle position, and this masterpiece is unlike any other guitar model ever created by any manufacturer. The finish on this guitar is a non-standard custom finish created for the guitar shop that originally sold it. It was also custom-ordered with abalone birds instead of the usual moons/dots. It was also custom-ordered with the gold hardware. You will not find another Swamp Ash Special like this one. They simply don't exist. There was a tiny finish flaw on the edge of the top, as shown in the photo. It was touched up and is impossible to find unless someone points it out. I point it out in the photos. There is also a very small flaw on the fretboard on the 6th fret, and I point it out in the photos, but again, unless it is pointed out, you will never see it. It is too small to see without really straining to find it. Other than that, this Swamp Ash Special custom guitar is in exceptionally pristine condition. There is some very light oxidation on the pickup covers, but that is universal and happens to all of them if they are out of the case. This is not a case queen, but it is pretty close! Most likely the oxidation can be polished off completely, although it is nearly impossible to see, as the photos show. There are also some pick swirls on the pickup covers, because this guitar has actually been played. Without shining a bright light onto the pickup covers, they look pretty close to new. The finish is a taupe-colored whitewash finish that looks absolutely amazing. The color combinations of this guitar are really strange, but they beautifully combine into an unbelievably gorgeous instrument. The tuners are ebony, and all hardware is in the PRS gold finish. The neck is made from highly figured maple with a stunning flame, while the fret markers are the high-end birds made from abalone. The photos do not do justice to this work of art. The neck is smooth, and feels unplayed. The body is smooth as silk. Other than the one flaw shown, it is essentially in like-new, or near-new condition, front and back. This is probably as close as you will ever get to a like-new or near-new condition SAS from this time period. Then, adding to that fact, this guitar is also the ultimate deluxe, customized version of the Swamp Ash Special model. I have never seen any other deluxe, customized version of a Swamp Ash Special, and I have never seen this color on a SAS before, and I have viewed thousands and thousands of PRS guitars over the years. I first laid my eyes on PRS Guitars at the 1986 NAMM Show (Chicago show in June, before they moved the summer show to Nashville) when PRS was the most talked-about vender at the show. Paul was like a rock star at that show. He really was. That was back when PRS Guitars was only one year old. This year is their 40th anniversary. Hard to believe!! This is a radically unique guitar - unique in appearance, specs, tones, hardware, finish, and play. No matter how many other PRS models you own, this one is unlike any of them. Guitar includes the strap, which looks really good with the guitar, although I think a black leather strap would look even better. Comes with original PRS hardshell case and case candy as shown. The case is in perfect mechanical condition, and very good cosmetic condition, but not "like-new". It has several flaws that are very minor and typical for a guitar case that has been handled and used. The interior of the case is about as close to "like-new" as you will ever find. The latches and hinges are perfect, and there is no physical damage to the exterior of the case at all, other than a few scuffs, very small tears in the vinyl, and light wear, as well as a very light white mark on it, as shown in the photos. This will be packed in an oversized box for shipping, and will be insured for the amount of the purchase price. Shipping and insurance will be calculated and charged to the buyer to the penny of the actual cost, and no more than that. The amount of S/H shown by eBay is probably not accurate, because additional insurance is required for this transaction. The standard amount of insurance is only $100. I once shipped a guitar I sold on eBay, and packed it extremely well, and UPS destroyed it anyway. I think they ran it over. Seriously. Fortunately, it was fully insured and was covered. I do not trust USPS, UPS, or FedEx, and you shouldn't either!! They do not give two shits about the items they ship!! They are criminals! Therefore, I plan accordingly, and that costs extra, but it is well worth the cost. Nevertheless, this guitar is available for pick-up in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and that would be ideal, quite frankly, and there is no charge for local pick-up. You really should become the lucky new owner of this masterpiece.
