Description: Orig Oil/Canvas 16x10/Paris Montmartre/Signed by Naive Romanian/Marc Svabic/1976 A Delightfully warm and colorful fin de siecle setting naive art painting depicting a Sunday in Montmartre with strolling couples, children playing, balloons flying amid a riot of colorful trees in a park setting under the batiments of Montmartre. Oil on canvas measuring 10.5 x 16 inches (approx. 27 x 41 cm) and signed lower center "Svabic" and again on verso "Paris - Montmartre 76" Svabic Marc. A warm, inviting and naive artist's rendering of a turn of the last century scene in a famous high district of Paris by the Romanian naive artist Marc Svabic. An artist that little is known about, other than that he was active in and around Paris in the 1970s and 80s and preferred this naive style a la Henri Rousseau. Wether the artist Svabic knew of Henri Rousseau's oeuvre is unknown. But the artist's uncomplicated and nostalgic paintings were a hit with tourists of the era - as Svabic's artwork makes appearance from time to time at auction. The work is in fine condition, clean and bright, and treasured by the estate from whence it hails; purchase in Paris in 1976/77. Painting is simply dark wood framed with a canvas liner and is no doubt contemporary with the artwork. Successful bidders please note: INSURANCE on all items over $100 strongly recommended.
