Instrument signed Kelvin White and designed for night illumination of compass from below in a standard bridge binnacle and as pictured. Probably of WW2 era, this Kelvin White displays well its outstanding compass rose graphics on a card in good shape and signed: Kelvin & Wilfrid O. White Co. Boston & New York USA Instrument would do well stationed in a period binnacle for return to service offshore or active duty in a maritime collection. Interestingly, Kelvin White period compasses seem to be trending harder to acquire with their original gimballed mounting ring. Compass diameter standard 10-7/8", gimbaled in serial no. matching ring: 13-1/4" overall.Glass good, no chips or cracks, wet compass unpolished with factory paint and in original as found condition noting only an air bubble as commonly found in older instruments, which doesn't appear to effect accuracy, and typical scattered paint flakes, scuffs, etc. as pictured.
