Description: Estate FindOiva ToikkaHuiiti / CrakeGlass BirdNuutajarvi, Finland We offer a glass filigree bird from the Birds of Toikka Collection for iittala designed by Oiva Toikka, Finnish (1931-2019) and crafted at the Nuutajarvi glass factory in Finland. Our bird is a delicate white and brown filigree glass with a green head. Titled Crake or "Huitti" in Finnish, the little bird was produced from 1998-2002. The bird is inscribed on the base "O. Toikka Nuutajarvi" and retains the "iittala" label.The bird is documented on page 57 of the book "Birds by Toikka" and on page 88 of "In Oiva's Wonderland".Our bird is in pristine condition and measures 6" in length, 3 5/8" in width and 4 1/8" in height. ProvenanceJoAnn Ruth Carpenter, nee Brenner (1932-2016) was an educator, painter and thespian in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her father Henry Brenner (1903-1987) was a partner with his siblings in the San Antonio store chain Solo Serve founded by her grandfather Isidore Brenner (1874-1952) in 1919. The first store was located at 114 Soledad St. one block from the famous San Antonio Riverwalk.Her aunt Anita Brenner (1905-1974) was a noted journalist who established an international reputation for bringing the artists of the Mexican Renaissance, including Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo and Jose Clemente Orozco, to the New York art scene.
