He ends up "borrowing" twenty dollars from his boss's cash register for a date with the femme fatale (Jean Cagney) and ends up getting tangled up in a series of disasters that threaten to ruin his entire life! The movie is very suspenseful and I found myself routing for Dan (Mickey Rooney) even though he had brought all this trouble on himself. The ending was a little hard to swallow, but otherwise a great film noir. Peter Lorre is also great as a sleazy villain.
