Navajo Native Indian Sandpainting Pueblo Southwestern on Black Stone Slate

Description: NEW! Laser etched sandpainting into black stone slate. The Navajo American Indians were known for their famous sand art. Traditionally meticulously designed by various colored sand in a clenched fist spread upon the ground in detailed symbols and images - often very geometric along with depictions of the four elements, four directions and four sacred plants (corn, beans, squash and gourds). The artist may also sit in the middle of the sandpainting to enhance its absorption of healing powers. After the ritual, the sandpainting is destroyed and sand returned back to the Earth. Sandpaintings are just one rite in the healing ceremony where Earth People and Holy People come into harmony and are "places where the gods come and go" in the Navajo language. They are used in curing ceremonies in which the gods' help for requests like harvests and healing. According to Navajo belief, a sandpainting heals because the ritual image attracts and exalts the Holy People, serving as a pathway for the mutual exchange of illness and the healing power of the Holy ones. Each artwork from the Ancient Relica Series is created to be visually and tactically exciting. The heavy cold feel of the black slate and rough edges drives a sense of discovery. You just can't get this feeling from books or pictures... you need to feel.... let your eyes feel. Experience what it's like to explore the details of these ancient native American art, hieroglyphs, documents, pictographs and petroglyphs up close and personal. Our goal is to give you profoundness and discovery - like when such sites were first uncovered. Each Artwork is completely unique and are modeled after the original inscriptions and images.
