Description: An original straight headed spear hand forged during the Muromachi period, one of the most tumultuous periods in Japanese history spanning from 1336-1573. This yari, as with other forged weapons created during that period, is crafted with Tamahagane (玉鋼) Steel, which is high quality and resistant to rust. Which explains why the blade remains in such pristine condition even after centuries of age. The entire spear with the tang is 19 inches. The blade itself measures 10.5 inches and is 1 inch wide. The spear would’ve been affixed to a longer wooden handle with the nail hole at the bottom of the tang. Included with purchase is a custom carved wooden sheath and a silk bag to protect the blade from damage. When sheathed, the spear fits perfectly and is held in place by the tip. A great opportunity for a seriously well preserved piece of Japanese history. Samurai believed that their elite weapons had a soul of their own. But even without a soul, this blade certainly has character.
