The medal measures 1.5 in diameter. The obverse design depicts a code talker using communication equipment while three P-51 Mustangs fly overhead. Inscriptions are MENOMINEE CODE TALKERS and OMAEQNOMENEW KEMOC KEKETOTATOWAK, which translates to Menominee Secretly Talk to Each Other. The reverse design features the Thunderbird, which is the center element of the Menominee Nation seal; the five clans (bear, eagle, wolf, moose and crane); a sturgeon; and wild rice. The Menominee Nation is known for its reliance on wild rice and its intense fishing, especially for sturgeon. Inscriptions are WORLD WAR II and ACT OF CONGRESS 2008. The Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008 authorized the U.S. Mint to strike and issue medals to provide the recognition deserved by Native American Code Talkers for their dedication and valor in World Wars I and II. The heroic and dramatic contributions of Native American Code Talkers were instrumental in driving back Axis forces and securing the United States victories.
