Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “Cadmus Sowing The Dragon’s Teeth” Original Unframed Color Illustration (facing page 226) with tissue lining still attached from the 1910 1st Edition of Hawthorne's "A Wonderbook and Tanglewood Tales". Image is 6 1/4" x 5", outermost page dimensions are 9 1/2”x 7 1/4”. Stunning color and excellent condition. MP signature barely discernible in bottom left corner. Cadmus was originally painted for, and appeared as the color frontispiece in the October 31, 1908 issue of Collier’s Magazine featuring Greek Mythology III, issued as a print in 1909 and as an illustration in Hawthorne’s 1910 book and several subsequent editions. A nice cost/size alternative to the full size print (Ref. Flack’s 4th Ed. Page 37 (photo #12). These look great matted and framed.
