Marta Palau was a Spanish-born artist who became a Mexican national. She was one of the first visual artists in Mexico to make explicit statements about women’s issues during the 1970s, especially with her Ilerda tapestry series, and later with her sculptures related to the Nahualli. Her artistic practice spanned printmaking, painting, sculpture, and above all, tapestry, defining her work through a deep connection to materials. She also organized and managed various artistic events. In addition to tapestry, she worked in painting, printmaking, and ceramics. Her creations incorporate elements of land art, arte povera, abstract expressionism, and folk art. Some of her works reflect her interest in the rock paintings of Baja California. In her tapestry technique, she used Mexican vegetable fibers, and for some of her paintings, she employed amate paper.MARTA PALAU. Grabado. Serigrafia / cartulina.
