Using a calligraphy pen and manual he received as a gift, John practiced 8 to 10 hours daily for months. Slowly a talent for calligraphy manifested itself, as well as, a love for the free-flowing lines of copperplate script. Soon John found himself doing wedding invitations, certificates and diplomas. Eventually John and his wife Penny participated in local New England area craft shows with a small assortment of print designs. The response was so positive that John left his father's TV business and began his new career. Talking to John at craft shows people were surprised to learn and not only is he self-taught and left-handed but that he does his best work after an hour of weightlifting which he claims relaxes him. Over time the business changed in response to customer requests from where he no longer does any commissioned work but devotes all of his time to producing the distinctive line a calligraphic prints that are in shops throughout the country and abroad. These beautiful prints are easily recognized by John's meticulous script, subtle designs and touches of gold Today there are about 250 pieces in the Beyond Words collection.
