Description: Johnson, Lyndon Baines and Lady Bird Johnson - The Vantage Point Perspectives on the Presidency 1963-69 and A Whitehouse Diary - 1972 & 1970 U.K. first editions published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson First U.K. editions. 630 & 806 pages respectively. The Vantage Point is inscribed by the former U.S. President to the dedication page: "To Edmund de Rothschild with every good wish Lyndon B. Johnson", and A White House Diary is inscribed by the former First Lady to the front endpaper: "For Edmund de Rothschild & with happy memories of rhododendrons and reminiscences on American Presidents! Lady Bird Johnson, Nov 28, 1970". The recipient was the influential English banker and former WW2 soldier, Edmund Leopold de Rothschild (1916-2009), from the Library of Exbury House. The inscription by Lady Bird Johnson makes reference to de Rothschild's knowledge of U.S. Presidents and indicates that a cordial relationship existed between Rothschild and the Johnsons. Both books are firmly bound, with slight rubbing and bumping to their extremities. The text blocks are both lightly foxed and toned, each with the label of London bookseller Henry Sotheran Ltd to the front pastedown. The dust jackets are slightly toned, faded and rubbed, with minor nicks and short closed tears to the edges, that to 'The Vantage Point' is price clipped. An excellent association pair of White House memoirs, the British editions of which are quite rarely found signed.
