Description: ANTIQUE LOUDEN NO. A 23 Iron Barn Pulley with Original Wood Sheave Up for auction is a beautiful Louden Model A 23 hay trolley barn or line pulley in very good condition. Measurements are right at 11" tall x 6.5" wide x 3" deep. These pulleys were used to guide ropes for pulling hay bales or other objects on a trolley line, or for hoisting items up into the loft or wherever needed, in the barn or around the farm. This one was salvaged and refurbished from its original crusty barn find condition about 30 years ago. My home at the time was very primitive style filled with antiques, and I actually used it inside to hoist and lower a heavy primitive iron chandelier up and down when it needed dusting and candles replaced. I've moved and downsized, and don't have the room or the chandelier, so time to pass it on. This old pulley would be great for rustic country decoration in a Modern Farmhouse, country cabin, ranch, or home with a rope on it to hold something like a large basket planter, chandelier as I used it for, a lantern, or even an old well bucket. Great decor with or without anything and a neat antique piece that has great patina and an authentic, well-earned, rustic look. Although I've not had it out on display for quite some time, it has been stored packed away in a tub indoors, so only a light cleaning or oiling will bring it right back to display ready shape. The wood sheave is in good condition with normal tight solid age cracks that do not affect its functionality. They've been there for the over 40 years that I've owned it and I'm confident they'll hold up for another 40 years. The wood is very hard by now and they only further enhance its primitive character, as does the remainders of the old barn turkey red paint that still shows through on the surface of the iron. It was sand cleaned and clear coated when it was refurbished, nothing but dusted since then. The hook swivels and the sheave turns freely. These old barn pulleys make great rustic decor and are still usable to incorporate into your decor as functional, working holders, or stand-alone decoration. This one is a great example of an old barn find brought out of the dirt and back into use, and it will display wonderfully in your home or place of business. Shipping: USPS tracked, insured.
