Description: This is a custom 12" figure lot commemorating one of the best western books and TV mini series ever- Lonesome Dove. Larry McMurtry wrote the book of the same name as well as other books following the adventures of a couple of Texas Rangers in the American West. The story centers around two of my favorite western characters in print or on television, Captain Agustus "Gus" McCrae (played by Robert Duvall) and Captain Woodrow F. Call (played by Tommy Lee Jones). The two men are famous retired Texas Rangers. Gus loves women and is twice a widower while Woodrow is a workaholic. Gus appreciates a good time while Woodrow is more serious and stoic. The two run a small livery in the small bordertown of Lonesome Dove, Texas. They are helped by a couple of other retired Texas Rangers, Josh Deets (played by Danny Glover) also an expert tracker, as well as Pea Eye Parker (played by Tim Scott) , a not so bright but hard working individual. Young 17 year old Newt Dobbs (played by Ricky Schroder)also stays with them. Newt's prostitute mother is dead and it is likely Call is his father. An old retired Mexican bandit named Bolivar is the cook. Another of the former rangers Jake Spoon (played by Robert Urich), shows up unexpectedly with tales of land and opportunity for cattlemen in Montana. With their glory days behind them the two Ranger Captains decide to scare up a herd of cattle to drive north. The duo hire a good mix of characters to help with the drive. Gus actually goes along to visit and old flame, Clara Allen (played by Angelica Huston) that he knows lives along the path of the cattle drive. Throw in a lawman hunting for Jake, a bloodthirsty outlaw, comancheros, assorted bad men, and various other dangers and you have an exciting story that is hard to beat. You can sometimes find this mini series on cable or channels that run old westerns or old tv shows. While this figure lot does not look exactly like the characters or the actors, there is a nice resemblance. Please note these figures are not quite as poseable as some of my other figures but this figure lot displays well. These figures are made more for display for the old west or tv fan rather than play. sold as is. stands included.
