Our regular price for this poster is $389 LITTLE LULU / "The Opening" is a signed limited-edition screen-printed Cuban poster—part of a series titled “Happy Together / Felices Juntos”—that was designed in Havana in 2015 to celebrate the newly established diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States. This poster salutes the American cartoon character LITTLE LULU, an iconic American comic strip character who was born in The Saturday Evening Post, a U.S. magazine, in 1935. This poster is titled APERTURA (The Opening), a reference to the opening of U.S.-Cuba relations. This hard-to-find graphic was designed, hand-signed and numbered by Cuban artist Fabián Muñoz. The poster was screen-printed in Havana, Cuba. Fabián Muñoz is the son of Eduardo Muñoz Bachs (1937-2001), perhaps the best known Cuban poster artist ever. The “Happy Together” project was undertaken by two dozen graphic artists in Cuba and the United States who decided to use beloved cartoon and comic-strip characters from the two neighboring countries to highlight the diplomatic relations that were reestablished in December 2014 by U.S. President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro. The U.S. and Cuba became enemies in the early 1960s when they severed diplomatic relations. Obama visited Havana in March 2016. For the "Happy Together" project, the Cuban and U.S. artists created 24 limited-edition screen prints. In a stroke of diplomatic genius, the Cubans decided to design the U.S. cartoon characters, and the Americans designed the Cuban characters. The posters were unveiled during the prestigious Havana Art Biennial in May 2015. Only 75 copies of each screen-print were made to offer to the graphic arts market. Each poster is numbered. Overall condition of this handmade 20 x 28 inch poster is good. Small imperfections can be expected on this (and many) Cuban screen-prints, which are (of course) handmade.
