About the Printing Process: Working directly from rare original lithograph posters, and working in collaboration with various leading European museums, a highly skilled contemporary artist draws each stone or plate by hand. Carefully selecting the inks to assure that each color is re-created to the exact, pristine colors of the "master poster" as originally intended, the Artist uses a separate hand-drawn plate for each color. From these hand-drawn plates, Dieter Raoul Sauer then worked with a team of highly trained artisans to pull each of these hand-printed lithographs using a rare and vintage flatbed German lithography press from the 1800’s hand-printing color lithographs by far the finest ever made for producing lithographs with the marvelous aesthetic qualities of the original vintage works. Publishing Institution: Stadtische Kunstsammlung ChemnitzAbout the Advertising Image: Classic hairdresser and beauty salon advertising image. Classic image by Cappiello using that big red hair against a black backdrop that really pops!Provenance: Hatay Stratton Fine Art, Northampton, MassachusettesAbout the Artist: Leonetto Cappiello (1875 – 1942) was an Italian and French poster art designer and painter, who mainly lived and worked in Paris. He is now often called "The Father of Modern Advertising" because of his innovation in poster design. The early advertising poster was characterized by a painterly quality as evidenced by early poster artists Jules Chéret, Alfred Choubrac, and Hugo D'Alesi. Cappiello, like other young artists, worked in a way that was almost the opposite of his predecessors. He was the first poster artist to use bold figures popping out of black backgrounds, a startling contrast to the posters early norm.
