JULIANA D&E RAREST MAYAN “SUNBURST” BOOK-PIECE GOLD PLATED 4-PC SUITE: MONTANA BLUE & AB RHINESTONES This amazingly gorgeous set consists of 4 pieces; an exquisitely beautiful 3 dimension jewel encrusted brooch, matching asymmetric cluster clip-on earrings, an awesome 5-link cluster bracelet and an amazing jaw dropping necklace. All the rhinestones all mounted in closed and open back settings and held in place by tiny prongs. A few of the collet are smoldered to form a “bee shaped smoldered collet”, which some Juliana collectors refer to as puddlings. This is a characteristic feature found in many Juliana pieces and are used as one of the markers of verification. The metal parts are all 14K gold plated alloy. None of the pieces are signed as Juliana Jewelry was not hallmarked, but came with a paper tag. The tags on this set have been removed, however, an examination of the underside shows the construction features of Delizza and Elster. This set is verified book piece and is featured in Juliana Jewelry Reference Delizza & Elster Identification & Value Guide: Ann Pitman NOTE: The amazingly beautiful lavaliere style "Mayan Sunburst" necklace is discounted in price by $300.00, as it has a flaw; (It is missing two dangles from either side of the pendant of the necklace), but it does not show. The suite is regal and the design is Mayan culture inspired, hence the nickname. This design was first seen in 1962 and is featured in Ann Pitman’s Juliana Delizza & Elster Reference Book . See Reference below. Brooch: The magnificent "Mayan Sunburst" brooch is 3 dimensional and layered with Montana blue navette rhinestones and AB chaton cluster rhinestones. The center of the brooch has a single large Montana blue round cut rhinestone. Bracelet: The beautiful delicate bracelet is the typical 5-Link cluster construction of many Juliana D&E pieces. Each cluster is a smaller version of the design of the inner most layer of the necklace and the brooch. It fastens with a fold over latch and loop. There is a safety chain for additional security. Earrings: The cluster earrings are asymmetrical designed. The clusters are smaller versions of the design of the clusters of the bracelet, and the inner most layer of the necklace and the brooch. The cluster is enhanced by a “bee shaped” smoldered collet with two Montana blue chaton and a large navette Montana blue rhinestone. They fasten with paddle shaped clip backs. Necklace: The necklace is gold plated metal alloy lavaliere style with rhinestone chain link strands which support the large "Mayan Sunburst" pendant with five dangles. (Please note two dangles are missing, one from either side of the pendant). The necklace fastens with a “J” hook. Dimensions/Weight: All measurements and weights are approximate. Brooch ~ 2½” in diameter x 5/8”H. It weighs 40 grams. Bracelet ~ 7½”L x ¾”W x ½”H. It weighs 47 grams Earrings ~ 1”L x 1”W x ½”H. Each earring weighs 5 grams. Necklace ~ 18¼”L end to end. The pendant & dangles hang 3½”L x 2”W x ½”H. It weighs 46 grams. Condition: This is pre-owned vintage jewelry. This set was purchased from a collector in south Texas in 1980’s. The pieces are well preserved and gently worn, so they look new and unworn. The set has been in storage in a dust free and temperature controlled climate since being purchased over 45 years ago. The gold plated metal on all the pieces is in excellent condition, shiny and clean with little to no signs of age related wear. There is no corrosion, patina, damage or repair work to any piece. The stones are held in place by small prongs. All the stones are original. There are no missing prongs, and no damage or cloudiness in any rhinestone. The earring backs are clean and shiny and both fit snug to the ear lobe. The pin of the brooch is straight sharp and sturdy and fits into the roll over latch which fastens securely. The fold over latch on the bracelet and the spring latch both fasten securely. Structurally, the set is in near mint condition, with the exception of the missing dangles from the necklace as mentioned before. The necklace and brooch are featured on page 211. At time of printing of this book the necklace was valued at $400-$650.00 and the brooch at $200-$225.00. The bracelet and earrings are featured, but are an exact match. The estimated value for both is $350 -$500.00.
