Blue Book Models was the first modeling agency to hire Norma Jean Dougherty (aka, Marilyn Monroe) in 1946. Jasgur would later take photos of Dougherty in a white bikini holding the same life ring. He was only 26 years old when a young unknown aspiring model named Norma Jean Daugherty first walked into his studio in 1946 for some glamour shots. Little did he know at the time that he was shooting some of the earliest known modeling photographs of the iconic Marilyn Monroe! Jasgur’s photos weren't your typical cheesecake though... they were far more... different... often combining the odd intimacy of Arbus with the unflinching reality of Weegee (Jasgur himself was also a crime scene photographer). And yet they were playful... and always sexy!Joe Jasgur died in 2009, two days shy of his 90th birthday and the contents of his estate were later disbursed through a series of noteworthy sales. During that time, we were thrilled to have acquired the six binders that housed his very own 1940s file copy photographs... The photo in this listing originates from this Jasgur file copy collection. All of the photos in the binders are vintage and original to the 1940s: shot, hand produced, and maintained by Jasgur himself as his own personal archive of his work. Some are mounted, some are signed, and many are stamped. Jasgur Monroe photos are fairly accessible; Jasgur photos of other less famous models, however, are instead very difficult to come by (you won't find many, if any, on Ebay at any given time). Our Jasgur File Copy listings are a rare opportunity to acquire historic images hand produced and maintained by the celebrated photographer himself. GRADING: We use comic book grading standards, as defined by Overstreet and Comic Guarantee Corp., for grading all of our paper collectibles. These strict standards are well-developed and widely accepted. The various grades we use are generally applied as follows: Near Mint - item is bright and clean, virtually defect-free and appears "like new"... image is sharp... any defects would be barely perceptible and only visible upon close inspection. Very Fine / Near Mint - at first glance appears near mint but upon close inspection very minor degradation or one or two very small defects become apparent. Very Fine - generally clean and bright and still high grade and desirable but may have a few small defects (e.g., minor corner crease, light bend, subtle image degradation, etc.). Fine - average grade... nice collectible item but defects are more noticable and apparent.. may have some soiling or image issues. Very Good - lower grade... wear and tear is readily apparent... item is still complete though. Good - low grade... heavy defects... could be a piece missing from a corner or a major tear.
