Description: This is a beautifully rendered antique mirror from the Japanese Edo Period, with a Japanese Beautyberry tree theme, in excellent condition. It was created with the lost-wax casting "Rōgata" method, where a wax model is coated with a refractory of sand and clay to produce a mold, which is then heated until the wax melts out of the mold. Molten metal is then poured into the mold, and once it is cooled, the mold is broken open. A moulded signature mark relief appears on the left side, and measures 12" long by 7.5" wide total. Please see the photos of the sculpted & mirrored sides and lacquered case, provided for your review.
