They allow you to properly fit standard 3/8" axles into the oversize 1/2" dropout slots and also protect the aluminum and the paint on the dropouts from being gouged by the axle nuts. Fits all aluminum SE Racing frames from 1985-1999 ...This includes PK Ripper, Mini Ripper, Floval Flyer, Aluminum Quadangles, etc. These new Dropout Savers fit the 2nd generation "bent plate" (non-looptail) style dropouts. These frames are easily identified by their straight chainstay and seat stay tubes. They will NOT fit the newer retro 2007+ SE Racing models. For the newly re-issued 2007+ PK Ripper, Quadangle, Floval Flyer, and OM Flyer bikes, you will need the style I sell for Cro-Mo frames - those will fit the newer re-issued 2007+ retro bikes and frames. The backside of each Dropout Saver has a slotted protrusion that extends into the dropout to locate the axle and protect the dropout. The large backside surface that mates to the dropout face features a completely radiused outer edge. This prevents an otherwise sharp cornered (90ยบ square) edge from marking or gouging the painted, powder coated, or anodized finish of your frame. They are designed to be used as-is, but you can also send them out to be anodized any color you want.
