Description: Mind Tree 1 by Guy Aitchison. Original Oil on Canvas 36" X 60" in a hand painted frame 38" X 62" When I was living in Chicago, I would frequent a place called Space Time Tanks which had Sensory Deprivation Tanks among other relaxation tools. I would go there to float in the tanks and go on a cosmic journey in my mind for an hour. The place was super relaxing and had you take your shoes off when you came in. It had fish tanks and they burned incense. After my float, I would sit and relax in the main area of the place before going back outside. Guy Aitchison had a number of his paintings hung up in Space Time Tanks. I would admire his incredible work every time I would visit. I reached out to Guy to purchase Mind Tree 1 multiple times but he always told me that it wasn't for sale as it was HIS favorite painting. I would visit his tattoo studio on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. He charged twice the price per hour than any other tattoo artist in Chicago and still had a 6 month waiting list to get in. Guy is an incredible artist! To see what he can do on canvas is incredible but what he can do on skin is next level amazing! I think the fourth time I approached Guy to purchase Mind Tree 1, he relented. I paid way more than I could afford back then but this painting spoke to me like no other had previously. He told me I could pick it up from Space Time Tanks but to please not do it until after 6pm that day. When I did go to pick it up, the person working there told me that Guy had sat in front of the painting for about 2 hours meditating. I have since moved down to South Florida. In the last twenty years, I have met Guy on two occasions. The first was at a Tattoo convention in Florida and the second was during Art Basil in Miami Beach when Guy and his wife were live painting on stage with Alex Grey and his wife Alison. I spoke with Guy and told him that I owned his painting and that is was still the centerpiece of my entire art collection. He was very pleased that it was owned by someone that cherishes it like I do. It is time for someone else to love and cherish this incredible piece of art like I have for the last 26+ years. Guy Aitchison (born 1968) is an American tattoo artist and painter born in Michigan. Aitchison began painting album covers in 1985 and began tattooing in 1988. He has also released several books. He owns a studio called Hyper Space Studios with his wife, Michele Wortman, who is also a tattoo artist and painter. They were both on TLC's Tattoo Wars in 2007. He is the brother of former LA Ink TV personality, Hannah Aitchison. He was also a guest artist on LA Ink. He gave Rob Zombie his first tattoo in 1989 when he was 21. Guy Aitchison was already in an apprenticeship at the Jacklich Corporation in the art department by age 17. After completing his apprenticeship he began painting record covers for Vinnie Moore, David Chastain, Apocrypha, Hex, Skatenigs, and mostly for California-based Shrapnel Records. In 1989 he began a tattooing apprenticeship at Bob Oslon's Custom Tattooing in Chicago for two years. He opened his own tattoo studio, Guilty & Innocent Productions, which remained a top standing shop until 1998 when it shut down so that he could move to the country to focus more on painting. Guy Aitchison is considered the Godfather of Biomechanical Tattooing.
