Description: GUERRE 1914-18LA BATAILLE DES FRONTIÈRES 1914CARTESECOLE DE GUERREA large collection of about 70 maps relating to the The Battle of the Frontiers at the start of World War One, when French and British forces tried to stop the German advance.I think the maps are part of the monumental official French history of the war, Les Armées Françaises dans la Grande Guerre, which was published between 1922 and 1939 in 107 Volumes. The book is mentioned on some of the typed sheets that accompany the maps and some maps are dated 1928. The maps vary in size from small sheets to large folding, some coloured. I have counted 67 maps but may have missed some of the smaller ones.The maps are contained in a bespoke case in the form of a book with a leather spine and marbled boards.The case measures 32 x 26 x 5 cm. With the title in gilt on the spine.Very good condition, the edges of the case is worn. I have seen a little insect damage to the edge of one map and some annotations in coloured pencil to others but overall the appear clean and tidy, although I have not closely inspected them all.
