And offered here is a Vintage Original ( Genuine / Authentic ) Grateful Dead Backstage Pass - for the '89 Summer Tour ( West Coat Leg ! ) stop at the Legendary ! U.C. Berkeley Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California ( CA ) on August 18, 1989 ( 8/18/1989 ) !!! And ... as you likely well-know - this '89 late Summer run at the Greek was indeed the very-last time the Band would ever grace it. And ... boy did they ever !! Wow ... as this ' Final-Stand ' at the Greek fell on 8/17 - 8/18 - 8/18 ... kind of like the Falling Angel itself ! ... in that it was pretty clear to all that this would indeed be the end of the Band being able to play the Greek, as it also was for the Frost ( Stanford U.) in the May of '89, just a few months prior to this run. On the East Coast the crowds had gotten to the point where the Giants Stadiums - RFK's - and Soldier Fields of the world could be played in multi-night fashion, and the little ol' Greeks days were most definitely numbered. I went to school at Cal for a while, so maybe I'm a bit biased ... but, at least to me - the Greek is simply the Best ! outdoor Venue to see a Show, considering it's size, sound, atmosphere, placement, I mean you name it. And seriously too ... lets not forget about Sound ! - because there is no open-air situation behind that stage ... just rock - concrete pillars - and Rock & Roll !!! The Gorge in Washington is pretty sweet, but - it's open-air ( big time ) - so, blahh sound, in general. And naturally too, it was built after '95 in the post G.D. Era. Which obviously is a pretty important factor in the conversation ... Ha ! Well, all three of these Shows were broadcast locally on the air - KPFA-Berkeley, as were the '88 run of Shows ... and, the Boys just flat-out brought the Heat ! Which, came pretty darn easy to them - in 1989 !!! Bird Song, Iko, Terrapin, Miracle, and even Throwin' > NFA were the highlights for my ears overall, but - I must say ... the double Encore was definitely extra-special -- Black Muddy > Bid You Goodnight !!! This was the Friday night Show, and many Fans thought it was the best of the run pound-for-pound ... and, maybe I'd agree all & all -- if... were are not including the China > Rider from the 8/19 Show which was ... ahhh ? ... Completely-Sick !!! Or, what's another way to say it nicely ? Hmmm ... let's try this -- Jerry~Garcia !!!!!!!!!!! Over the top ' Huge ' !!! A way-cool " Falling Angel " Pass for certain, in Red & Black ! So-cool ... and these were only used a few times in the Late '80's, and maybe even just in 1989 ? If, my memory serves me correctly ... but, then again - let's not forget too ... that it has - " Peaked At The Greek " !!! What a Band ! ... what a Venue !! ... & Go Bears too !!! Enjoy !!!!!
