Total Depth is 3-3/4 inches. Recessed portion is 1/4 inch. This is a surface mount to be installed over the field tile (semi-flush) and not flush with it. There is about 3/8-inch overlay on the surrounding field tile. Depth needed for installation is 1/4 inch from finished surface. Projection from finished surface is 3-1/2 inches.The inset dimensions are 4-1/4" X 4-71/4" make your cut in the field tile 4-3/8" square so there is a little wiggle room or just leave out a whole 4-1/4" tile.
