Description: This pen is hand-made This is a one-of-a-kind, handmade genuine Fordite pen, made from paint from the Jeep factory that was located in Toledo, Ohio. This paint was used to produce Jeep Wranglers. The material is almost impossible to imitate and is found from others online as well. I sourced this directly, and turned the Fordite myself by hand on a lathe (video is available upon request). The Fordite is 100% genuine, and this format of pen is extremely rare (single piece, much larger than most pens available from Fordite). Process Due to organic nature of Fordite, and possibility of "flaking" of the layers, it must be delicately shaped. This Fordite was drilled for the inner-pen fitting, then turned on a lathe and sanded to its round shape with 150 grit, then 220, 320, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000 (wet), 3000 (wet), 6000 (wet), and finally felt to ensure glossy appearance and vibrant colors to the Fordite. Finish Glossy. Pen is finished with multiple coats of premium automotive clear coat that seals minor imperfections in the layers, and then hardens to create a tactile finish to hold in hand. Hardware (Pen Parts) Pen was fitted and completed in January 2020. The hardware of this pen is a 24k gold-plated executive twist pen. It has black ink, and uses a "Parker Style" refill tube (commonly used for premium pens, and available at office supply stores and online in a variety of colors.) Though the surface of the Fordite is sealed and hardened in a glossy clear-coat, this twist-style pen turns at the top to reveal the tip of the pen, so you don't need to apply pressure to the body in regular use. The dimensions of the pen are approximately 5 1/3 inches long x 1/2 diameter width. What is Fordite? If you've made it this far, you probably know about Fordite. It's also known as "Detroit Agate." It is hardened automotive paint from factories that has been scraped off and contains layers of many colors of different paints. These often reflect a certain set of makes/models of vehicles. If handled properly, Fordite can be cut, shaped and polished to form brilliant man-made minerals, similar to gem stones, that exhibit brilliant "grains" similar to wood, but made of hardened paint.
