Description: This is the first rookie card RC for San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, a 2023 SI Kids #1053. Card is in near mint shape, a little off center but no creases or folds. Wembanyama is considered one of the greatest basketball prospects of his generation. Selected first overall by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft. At 7-4, he is tied for the tallest active NBA player but shoots from the outside and handles the ball much more than a typical player of his height. He was NBA Rookie of the Year in 2023-24. In 2024-25, he is leading the NBA in blocked shots with 3.4 per game and is 11th in rebounds [10.4]. He is third in scoring among centers with 23.6 points a game. Wembanyama is from France and plays with the national team there. Helped France earn Silver Medal in 2024 Olympics. Also played for the Metropolitans 92 and became the youngest player to win the Pro A MVP award. Is still only 20 years old - turns 21 on Jan. 4. Sports Illustrated for Kids trading cards are official cards that have been produced since 1989. They are inserted into each issue that up until 2020 have been published monthly with the exception of a combined January-February issue. Starting in 2020, they have been published every two months. They're printed on a light cardboard stock paper [a little more flimsy than Topps and other cards] and are limited to a print run of the amount of issues published by the magazine. Some of the less mainstream athletes are featured who have no other cards on the market. Some SI cards have become quite valuable, such as the 1996 Tiger Woods and 2023 Victor Wembanyama cards. Note: These cards are torn along perforated lines and may have slight wear due to being in a magazine. Most grading services will only grade SI Kids cards if they are torn out along perforation and not cut out.
