Description: This is a lovely and whimsical Fine Antique Old 19th c. Primitive American Folk Art Illinois Children Oil Painting on Artist Board, depicting several children seated on the edge of an open grassy area, with the central child holding a bird's nest with several eggs in his lap. To the right of this scene, and in the distance, a young boy and his dog, and a child who can be seen high up in the branches of a tall tree are visible. This tree is likely the source of the bird's nest that the children are fascinated by. This painting is unsigned, and likely date to the second half of the 1800's. Perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? An old framer's label on the verso indicates that it received a new backing paper in Illinois, and I believe that this artwork was likely painted in Illinois and originates from this geographical area. Approximately 13 x 16 3/8 x 1 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 9 x 12 inches. Good overall condition for well over a century of age and storage, with several speckles of soiling across the sky area of the surface of the painting, and mild - moderate gilding loss, edge wear, and loose ornamentation to the ornate period gilded wood frame (please see photos carefully.)
