He was born on April 20, 1942 in Santiago, Chile and died on September 9, 2004 in Buin, Chile. He studied Sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Chile between 1963 and 1969. He was a student of Marta Colvin and Ricardo Mesa. Later between 1970 and 1971 he studied sculpture at the Slade School of Arts at the University of London, England. Between 1972 and 1973 he served as professor of Sculpture at the University of Chile. He was exonerated from the University for his leftist ideas and secluded himself in a plot of land in Buin where he dedicated himself to designing, creating and directing an artistic locksmith workshop. Between 1991 and 1993 he was a professor of Locksmithing and Forging at the Municipality of Santiago, Chile. Between 1993 and 1995 he was a professor of the Complementary Sculpture Workshop at the University of Chile. Since 1997 he was assistant professor of Sculpture at the Finis Terrae University of Santiago, Chile. Félix Maruenda was part of the Pro-Ecology Artists Corporation in Isla Negra.At the age of 62 he took his own life.
