This textile is and it was used to gather the olives under the olive trees! Blankets like this one would be spread out on the grass under the olive trees and harvesters would shake or comb the olives from the branches and would gather them using the blankets! Almost 10 pounds of antique, hand woven linen, wool and cotton! A beauty!! This textile dates from the late 1800s and uses wool, linen, and cotton in the weave. It was woven by hand with a plain weave. This textile was made by stitching together three separate handwoven panels so there are two seams running the length of this piece. The tone of the ground cloth is a soft pink, and the other colors include dark chocolate brown, charcoal gray, deep mulberry pink, a soft blush pink and natural hemp tone! Its a fabulous blanket and would make a wonderful bed cover, decorative throw, or could be deconstructed and the fabric used for upholstery, curtains, pillows, etc. What a fantastic piece of textile history! MEASUREMENTS: This wonderful blanket measures approximately 86 inches wide by 111 inches long CONDITION: I have freshly washed this olive blanket and its ready to use! It needed to be washed, which resulted in a bit of pink dye transferring to the lighter areas when it was washed, giving it this beautiful overall pink glow that I love! I recommend dry cleaning for the future or take it to a professional cleaner! There is some wool damage and wool loss in the threads in places, and some holes along one side edge.
