The print will go nicely in an 11 x 14" frame with mount.Age: 1884Condition: Print in excellent condition, edges of full sheet slightly yellowed but not affecting the image. This print was engraved in 1883, and published as one of a collection of 20 in 1884 by the Fine Art Society, New Bond Street, London, under the title Etchings of Old London. The prints are a wonderful pictorial record of Dickensian London, often unrecognisable from today's scene. In his preface to the work Ernest George explains that his purpose in making the prints is to capture the look and feel of old London, the varied "homely architecture and the busy streets and waterside scenes. He laments the fact that some of the buildings he depicts are being pulled down as he writes. George refers to other projects going on at this time (such as the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London) to record the rapidly disappearing old London scene. The print is on high quality laid paper and is signed, dated and titled in the print. It has a separate description provided by the author, which will be sent with the print.
