Erhard Raus WW II German General 6th Panzer Division War Dated Document

Description: Erhard Raus [1889 1956] was a decorated Austrian born general in the Wehrmacht during World War II who was awarded The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, who commanded the 6th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front. Raus began his military career in 1909 and served in the First World War with the Austrian Army. After the annexation of Austria to Germany in 1938, he transferred to the Wehrmacht. Raus was given command of the 6th Panzer Division on September 7, 1941, and commanded during Operation Barbarossa where he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. In 1942, he commanded the 6th Panzer again in France and the following units during the war, 1st Panzer Army, 3rd Panzer Army, III SS Panzer Army and the XI SS Army Corps. After the war he authored a number of books on strategic analysis of tank tactics by his forces on the Eastern Front. Listed for auction is a war dated document signed by General Erhard Raus. The document is dated 10 August 1943 on the typed letterhead of Generalkommando, Russland, [Russia]. The document lists three soldiers to be awarded the Iron Cross Second Class for actions on 10.8.43. The document is signed at the bottom ''Raus'' above his typed rank and command. The document measures 8.25 x 6.00 inches, small paper loss left edge, small tear at top otherwise in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, war dated on a desirable format and is a nice example of this prominent World War II Panzer commander.
