Description: Offered is a beautifully designed and intricately detailed embroidered military patch saluting the USS Mason DDG-87 "Proudly We Serve" Launched in 2001 and still on active duty she is an Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer. She was named primarily in honor of the crew of a previously named USS Mason, a Destroyer Escort DE-529. The DE-529 was named for Navy Ensign Newton Henry Mason who was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross after being reported missing in action at the Battle of the Coral Sea during World War 2. The DE-529 was notable as it was the only surface warship with a predominately African-American crew. The patch measures 3 1/2" x 4 1/2".
