Description: Danish MCM Stoneware Vase: Helge Bjufstrom (attrib.), Michael Andersen & Son, Bornholm, Beautiful Blue Glaze, 1960s This robust vase with a beautiful glossy blue glaze on a partially exposed red chamotte stoneware base is from the Michael Andersen and Sons (MA&S) workshop on the Danish island of Bornholm. MA&S was established in the late 1880s by Jens Michael Andersen, who had trained at the Hjorth ceramics factory in Rønne, the capital of Bornholm. Michael Andersen was joined in the company by his four sons, giving the company its name. This vase is well-marked with the three fish (herring) shopmark of MA&S, which is the seal of the city of Rønne. While this vase does not bear the artist signature of Helge Bjufstrom, who worked at MA&S in the 1960s, it can be safely attributed to her since similar pieces in this line with the same glaze can be found bearing her HB signature. The vibrant blue glaze flows down over the top three-quarters of the base, exposing the rough red chamotte stoneware base. The dimensions of this vase are approximately 5.75 inches high, 4.5 inches wide at its widest point, and about 2.5 inches across the mouth. The condition of this vase is excellent, with no observed flaws. Please see the photos for further details on condition. The bulk of my Danish collection consists of Arne Bang, Saxbo, Jais Nielsen, Nils Thorsson, Erik Hjorth, and Ejvind Nielsen.
