The County of Camden was officially created in 1844, when it separated from Gloucester County. The City of Camden site includes an outstanding article on The History of Camden with great details on early West Jersey. The County of Camden contains many of the nation's "firsts"; such as The first drive-in theater (was located on Admiral Wilson Blvd). The first African-American municipality incorporated norht of the Mason-Dixon Line; see Lawnside NJ Campbell Soup Company had it's origins in Camden County. Their World Headquarters is still located in the City of Camden. Along with RCA, Campbell's has defined New Jersey, Camden County, and Camden City The Victor Talking Machine Company, later the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), was another long-time employer in Camden City.
