Description: This is an interesting campaign stud back campaign button with the wording "For Mayor Richard C. Jenkinson". We have not found the year or any information on when Jenkinson ran for mayor. But, we are estimating (based on this type of stud button configuration) that this button was issued circa 1892 or so. This stud back button has a front diameter of 3/4 of an inch. There is a U.S. flag style design with the wording at the center in a circle. We did find information that a Richard C. Jenkinson who lived in New Jersey donated a significant collection of books, which exhibited different styles of fine printing, to the Public Library in Newark, New Jersey around 1925. In 1925 the Newark, N. J. Public Library published a catalog of 288 titles which Jenkinson had contributed. In 1929 they put another catalog listing titles from the Jenkinson collection which listed 792 volumes. We have not been able to establish beyond any doubt that this was the same Richard C. Jenkinson who ran for mayor in N. J. in the 1890's. But, it seems likely that it was the same man as this button turned up in an estate in the Newark, N. J. area. The front is in excellent condition with no flaws. The back metal stud has toned to a natural even dark gray color from age. This was recently found in an early estate from New Jersey where it had been carefully sequestered for the approximately 127 years or so since around circa 1892.
