BLUE BUTIA ODORATA - JUBAEA PALM -5 FT XL COLD HARDY 10°F - 7 GAL FLORIDA GROWN

Description: RARE MONSTER PALM – JUBAUTIA SPLENDENS (BUTIA ODORATA X JUBAEA CHILENSIS HYBRID) 5 FT TALL IN 7-GALLON CONTAINER SUMMER SPECIAL PRICEMAYBE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BEAUTIFUL PALM THAT CAN TAKE YOUR COLDER TEMPERATURES. IT’S TIME TO STOP LOOKING AT THOSE BEAUTIFUL PALMS IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND WISHING THEY COULD GROW IN OUR COLDER ZONES. BACKYARD PARADISE NURSERY SPECIALIZES IN ONE OF THE LARGEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL SILVER BLUE HYBRID PALMS NAMED “xJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS - DICK DOUGLAS*” PALM (BUTIA ODORATA x JUBAEA CHILENSIS HYBRID) THAT ARE COLD HARDY TO 10 DEGREES WHEN MATURE. THIS RARE xJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS PALM IS A ONE-OF-A-KIND COLD HARDY HYBRID THAT COMBINES THE ELEGANCE OF THE BLUE BUTIA ODORATA PALMS WITH THE SUBSTANTIAL SIZE OF THE JUBAEA CHILENSIS PALM (CHILEAN WINE PALM). SO MUCH BEAUTY WITH OUR HYBRIDS IS ACCOMPANIED BY VERY FAST GROWTH TYPICAL FOR THESE HYBRIDS AND THEY ARE REAL WINNERS. OUR CUSTOMERS LOVINGLY CALL THESE PALMS “BEASTS” OR “MONSTER PALMS ON STEROIDS” WHEN PEOPLE ASK WHERE TO GET ONE. THE STRIKING SILVER BLUE COLOR AND FORM MAKES FOR AN OUTSTANDING FEATURE SPECIMEN THAT HAS VERY LONG (8-9 FT) LEAVES AND MATURES TO 20+ FT TALL. WE HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY SELLING PALMS AND LOQUATS HERE ON EBAY FOR OVER 12 YEARS AND HAVE 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. WE ONLY USE THE BEST QUALITY HANDPICKED SEEDS FROM OUR SILVER BLUE HYBRID PALM AND THESE SEEDS ARE THE ONLY ONES USED FOR THE OFFSPRING WE ARE SELLING TO GIVE YOU A SUPERIOR PALM. OUR PRICES ARE AN INCREDIBLE VALUE WHEN CONSIDERING THE RARITY OF THIS HYBRID, QUALITY, HEALTH, APPEARANCE, COLOSSAL SIZE, AND SHIPPED IN A 7-GALLON CONTAINER. OUR CARING PREPARATION WHEN PACKING THE PALMS FOR SHIPPING, IS COMMONLY MENTIONED BY CUSTOMERS WHEN THEIR TREES ARRIVE HEALTHY AND BEAUTIFUL. QUITE OFTEN THESE SPARKS CUSTOMERS TO IMMEDIATELY ORDER ADDITIONAL PLANTS WITH THE SAME DISTINCTION. WE HAVE MANY REPEAT CUSTOMERS SO YOU CAN'T GO WRONG SELECTING OUR PLANTS. LOOK AT OUR COLLECTION OF PHOTOS AND THEN ORDER YOUR RARE AND COLD HARDY “JUBAUTIA SPLENDENS” HYBRID. OUR SILVER BLUE HYBRID PALM HAS BOTH MALE AND FEMALE FLOWERS SO IT CAN SELF-POLLINATE AND IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING CONSISTENT LOOKING HYBRID OFFSPRING. BEING A HYBRID, THESE OFFSPRING ALSO HAVE MORE VIGOR AND FASTER GROWTH THAN A PURE BUTIA OR JUBAEA PALM. THE SEEDS ARE VERY POTENT, FREQUENTLY PRODUCING 2 OR 3 TREES FROM ONE SEED THAT GROW INDIVIDUALLY. THE GROWTH RATE IS REMARKABLE REACHING ABOUT 4 FT AT JUST THREE YEARS OLD. THEREAFTER, EACH YEAR A MUCH LARGER SPEAR GROWS BY ADDING ANOTHER FOOT OR MORE TO THE PALM. YOU CAN GROW THIS HYBRID PALM AS A TROPICAL OUTDOORS IN FULL SUN OR MEDIUM SHADE BUT ITS GROWTH IS NOT SUITABLE FOR INDOORS. THE GORGEOUS SILVER BLUE COLOR (CALLED GLAUCOUS) REMAINS FOR THE LIFE OF THE TREE VARYING SOMEWHAT DEPENDING ON SUN. THE PALMS WE ARE SELLING HERE ARE ONLY THOSE ALREADY SHOWING THE BLUE COLOR. WE GROW THESE HYBRID PALMS AT OUR FAMILY-OWNED NURSERY IN NORTH FLORIDA WHERE THERE HAS BEEN SNOW, FROSTS AND MINOR FREEZES. OUR MATURE JUBAUTIA SPLENDENS PALMS THRIVE IN THESE WINTER COOLER CONDITIONS AND ARE RATED COLD HARDY FOR OUR USDA ZONE 8B (COLD 15-20 °F) AND ZONE 8A (COLD 10-15 °F) FOR MATURE TREES. THE BUTIA ODORATA IS THE LARGEST PALM NATIVE TO SOUTHERN BRAZIL AND URUGUAY AND IS WIDELY CULTIVATED AROUND THE WORLD. THE BUTIA ODORATA IS VERY COLD HARDY BECAUSE IT COMES FROM A HIGHER ELEVATION REGION WHERE THE TEMPERATURES DROP LOW. WE DON’T BELIEVE IN GREENHOUSES AND ALL OF OUR SUPER HEALTHY PALMS ARE GROWN OUTDOORS. OUR JUVENILE PALMS HAVE ALREADY BEEN "HARDENED" TO COLD CONDITIONS OF ZONE 8B, INCLUDING GERMINATION IN THE OUTDOORS UNDER NATURAL CONDITIONS. THE SEEDS PLANTED DURING THE SPRING/SUMMER GO THROUGH THE WINTER AND SEVERAL FREEZES OUTDOORS WITH NO PROTECTION. WE BELIEVE THAT DOING THIS THE SEEDS COULD BE "IMPRINTED" WITH CHARACTERISTICS FROM THE COLD SURVIVAL THAT THEY ENDURE BEFORE THEY GERMINATE IN THE SPRING. THE YOUNGEST SEEDLINGS, STILL AT THE “BLADE STAGE” (LINERS), ARE ABLE TO GO THROUGH THE WINTER WITHOUT BEING COVERED AT ALL. THE NEXT STAGE ARE THE JUVENILE PALMS THAT NEED COVERED DURING A FROST AND HARD FREEZE UNTIL THEY REACH 5-6 FT. IF THE JUVENILE PALMS HAVE A DELICATE SPEAR JUST STARTING GROWTH, THEY SHOULD BE PROTECTED. THESE JUVENILE PALMS THAT NEED TEMPORARY PROTECTION FROM HARD FREEZES, DO NOT PERISH BUT MIGHT HAVE SOME MINOR LEAVE EDGES TURN COLOR, OR THE NEW DELICATE SPEAR COULD BE DAMAGED OR JUST HAVE DISCOLORATION. IF THE SPEAR IS DAMAGED THEN YOU CAN REMOVE IT AND APPLY COPPER FUNGICIDE INTO THE HOLE. THIS METHOD HAS RESULTED IN OUR PALMS REGENERATING A NEW SPEAR WITHOUT TEMINAL DAMAGE. WE ARE SELLING THESE PALMS WITH A REGENERATED NEW SPEAR AT A DISCOUNT PRICE. WE WILL SEND A PHOTO OF THE PALM TREE YOU WILL RECEIVE BEFORE IT IS SHIPPED.IF YOU LIVE IN COLDER ZONES THAN ZONE 8A OR ZONE 8B, YOU CAN PURCHASE YOUR PALMS WHILE THEY ARE AVAILABLE AND WINTER THEM IN A GARAGE OR SHED UNTIL SPRING TO TRANSPLANT OUTDOORS. WE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THE RECORD COLD DURING THE CHRISTMAS FREEZE OF 2022 WHERE TEMPS WERE IN THE LOW 20'S FOR 5 DAYS. WE DID BRING MANY OF OUR JUVENILE PALMS INSIDE THE HOUSE THAT WERE OK. SOME THAT WERE LEFT OUTSIDE AND COVERED DID HAVE THE SPEAR DAMAGED THAT WE REMOVED AND TREATED WITH COPPER FUNGICIDE AND KEPT SPEAR HOLE DRY. THESE PALMS TOOK NO TIME AT ALL REGENERATING A NEW SPEAR IN PERFECT CONDITION. MATURE JUBUTIA TREES WERE ALL IN PERFECT CONDITION NO DAMAGE AT ALL.WE HAVE LISTED THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A JUBAUTIA SPLENDENS DICK DOUGLAS (HODEL 2011) HERE AND LATER IN THIS LISTING, TO ENSURE YOU THAT OUR PALMS ARE INDEED FROM PARENTS THAT ARE BUTIA ODORATA AND JUBAEA CHILENSIS. DR. DONAL HODEL COMMENTED THAT IF THE PARENT IS A BUTIA ODORATA THEN THE OFFSPRING WILL HAVE MORE CHARACTERISTICS OF THAT PARENT. THEREFORE, THE FOLLOWING IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF OUR SILVER BLUE JUBAUTIA SPLENDENS DICK DOUGLAS PER HODEL 2011. THE LARGE DELICIOUS FRUITS ARE YELLOW AND HAVE A DISTINCTIVE SHAPE DESCRIBED AS A CORN “KERNEL” WITH A FLAT TOP AND POINT AT THE BOTTOM (SEE PHOTO) MATCHING THE APPEARANCE OF THE JUBAEA CHILENSIS FRUIT. THE MIXED FRUIT TASTE IS LIKE A COMBINATION OF APRICOT, PINEAPPLE, BANANA, PEACH, AND MANGO. THIS FRUIT IS POPULAR HERE IN THE US WITH RECIPES FOR TASTY TREATS INCLUDING JELLY THAT GIVES THE PALM IT’S NICKNAME “JELLY PALM.” THE BUTIA ODORATA PALMS ARE NATIVE TO CENTRAL RIO GRANDE DO SUL IN BRAZIL AND NEAR THE BORDER WITH URUGUAY. THEY LIVE IN THE WILD IN HIGHER ELEVATION COLDER PARTS NEAR JUBAEA PALMS AND ARE FREQUENTLY KNOWN TO PRODUCE HYBRIDS. IN THOSE PLACES, THE FRUIT IS VERY POPULAR AND IS EATEN RAW OR ADDED TO OTHER FOODS OR DRINK. FOR EXAMPLE, THE FRUIT IS USED IN ICE CREAM AND IN LOCAL MOONSHINE MADE FROM SUGAR CANE TO GIVE IT A NUTTY FLAVOR!OUR JUBAUTIA SPLENDENS DICK DOUGLAS HAS THE EXPECTED HYBRID’S CHARACTERISTICS THAT INCLUDES GROWTH TO A MASSIVE HEIGHT OF 20 FT, LARGE RECURVED FRONDS WITH A TWIST ALMOST TOUCHING THE GROUND (PHOTO), SILVERY BLUE COLOR (GLAUCOUS) PHOTO), BURGUNDY-PINK FLOWERS (INFLORESCENCE) (PHOTO), LARGE OBLONG AND ROUND SEEDS (PHOTO), PINK SPATHE (HOLDS THE BLOOMING FLOWERS) (PHOTO), HAS SILVER BLUE FRINGE INSTEAD OF ARMED TEETH, HEAVY FIBER AND LARGE DELICIOUS FRUITS (PHOTO). LEAVES START AS A SINGLE BLADE AND THEN START TO OPEN AS “WINDOWS” WITH SPACES BETWEEN AND ARE HOOKED TOGETHER AT THE TIPS UNTIL FURTHER GROWTH. THE FROND’S MATURE PINNATE LEAVES HAVE A FEATHER-LIKE APPEARANCE THAT IS DISTINCTIVE IN THE HIGH NUMBER OF DELICATE LEAVES (PHOTO). THE MOSTLY CLEAR THICK TRUNK IS INCREDIBLY SUBSTANTIAL, MEASURING 30 INCHES IN DIAMETER, AND HAS INTERESTING SILVER BLUE FILAMENTS THAT LOOK LIKE FRINGE WHERE FRONDS ARE ATTACHED, ADDING ANOTHER RARE QUALITY ABOUT THIS PALM (PHOTO).THANKS FOR LOOKING AT BACKYARD PARADISE NURSERY’S INCREDIBLE PALMS: WE WANT YOU TO ENJOY YOUR PLANTS WITHOUT WORRY AND WE SEND ONLY THE BEST HEALTHY PLANTS TO ENSURE YOUR SUCCESS. DONAL HODEL 2011. A. OUR SILVER BLUE HYBRID FRONDS ARE 6-8 FT LONG AND ARCHING, RECURVED WITH A TWISTED APPEARANCE, GRAYISH TO BLUE-GRAY AND GLAUCOUS (SILVER BLUE) BLOOM, CONSISTENT WITH JUBUTIA SPLENDENS DICK DOUGLAS. OUR HYBRID HAS SILVER BLUE FRINGE INSTEAD OF ARMOR ON LEAF STALKS CONSISTENT WITH JUBAEA CHILENSIS OR SMALL ARMOR CONSISTENT WITH BUTIA ODORATA. THE LEAF STALK IS 40 INCHES LONG, AND IS LOCATED BETWEEN THE BASE AND ALONG THE CENTRAL BLADE.B. OUR SILVER BLUE HYBRID’S LEAVES ARE PINNATE, 40-50 IN NUMBER AND HAVE A FEATHER-LIKE APPEARANCE. AFTER GERMINATION, SINGLE LEAF BLADES START AND THEN AFTER MORE GROWTH THEY OPEN WITH SPACES BETWEEN LEAVES (WINDOWS) AND ARE HOOKED TOGETHER AT THE TIPS. LEAFLETS CAN BE THIN AND DELICATE (MOTHER BUTIA ODORATA) OR THICKER (PARENT JUBAEA CHILENSIS), CONSISTENT WITH THE JUBUTIA SPLENDENS DICK DOUGLAS. A PINK SPATHE (POD LOOKING THEN OPENS TO HOLD BURGUNDY-PINK INFLORESCENCES (FLOWERS) WITH 6-8 STAMENS MALE AND FEMALE.C. OUR SILVER BLUE HYBRID’S TRUNK IS CONSISTENT WITH THE JUBUTIA SPLENDENS DICK DOUGLAS. THE TRUNK HAS QUALITIES MORE LIKE THE JUBAEA WITH A MASSIVE SMOOTH TRUNK 30-INCH DIAMETER. THE TRUNK IS MOSTLY CLEAR WITH BUMPS FROM OLD WOODY LEAF BASES OR RIDGES FROM LEAF SCARS THAT LOOKS SIMILAR TO THE JUBAEA TRUNK. THERE ARE SILVERY TOMENTUM (LOOKS LIKE FUR) ON FRONDS, AND LOTS OF HAIR OR WOOL NEAR THE TRUNK BASE (PHOTO). THE TRUNK BASE COLOR OF OUR HYBRID IS BURGUNDY OR GREEN. D. OUR SILVER BLUE HYBRID FRUIT LOOKS YELLOW WITH A PINK RING NEAR THE STEM. IT HAS A DISTINCTIVE SHAPE DESCRIBED AS A “KERNEL” (CORN) WITH A FLAT TOP AND POINT AT THE BOTTOM KNOWN FOR THE HYBRID AND APPEARANCE OF THE JUBAEA CHILENSIS FRUIT. THE SIZE OF THE FRUIT IS LARGER THAN THE PURE BUTIA ODORATA AND A CLOSER MATCH TO THE JUBAEA CHILENSIS. THE LARGE SEEDS ARE BOTH OBLONG (BUTIA ODORATA) AND ROUND (JUBAEA CHILENSIS), CONSISTENT WITH CHARACTERISTICS OF A HYBRID. E. xJUBAUTIA OFFSPRING ARE INTERMEDIATE BETWEEN THE PARENTS BUT MORE STRONGLY RESEMBLE THE PARENT MOTHER AND HAVE COMMON TRAITS BETWEEN THE PARENTS SUCH AS BLUE TINTED PINNATE FRONDS, SIZE AND A WIDE TRUNK.F. THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY, ART COLLECTIONS, AND BOTANICAL GARDENS HAVE SEVERAL PLANTS LABELED BUTIA × JUBAEA CHILENSIS FROM CROSSES THAT MERRILL WILCOX HAD MADE IN FLORIDA IN THE 1970S. HOWEVER, THE JUBAEA CHILENSIS THAT PROVIDED THE POLLEN MAY ITSELF HAVE BEEN A ×JUBAUTIA HYBRID. NONETHELESS, THE HUNTINGTON PLANTS BEAR A STRONG RESEMBLANCE TO ×JUBAUTIA SPLENDENS ‘DICK DOUGLAS. * INFORMATION ABOVE AND IN THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION ARE FROM “A NEW NOTHOSPECIES AND TWO CULTIVARS FOR THE HYBRIDS IN CULTIVATION BETWEEN BUTIA ODORATA AND JUBAEA CHILENSIS” DONAL R. HODEL, HODEL: NEW HYBRIDS, PALMS VOL.55(2) 2011.PROBLEMS WITH INCORRECT NAMING BUTIA ODORATA VERSUS BUTIA CAPITATATHERE HAS BEEN SOME CONFUSION IN THE CORRECT NAMING AND PROPER DESCRIPTION OF THE BUTIA ODORATA PALM. THIS WAS CORRECTED BY DR. DONAL HODEL, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IN THE 2011 PUBLICATION* MENTIONED ABOVE. IN 1973, THE NAME xJUBAUTIA WAS INTENTIONALLY CREATED WHEN DICK DOUGLAS SOWED SEED FROM A BUTIA x JUBAEA CROSS AT HUNTINGTON BOTANICAL GARDENS IN CALIFORNIA. THE INTERNATIONAL PALM SOCIETY SEED BANK PRODUCED CULTIVAR THAT IS THE BASE FOR xJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS IN 1973. HYBRID NAME xJUBAUTIA USED FOR BUTIA ODORATA AND JUBAEA HYBRIDS IN CADICK DOUGLAS IN 1973, DELIBERATELY CREATED HYBRIDS BETWEEN BUTIA AND JUBAEA CHILENSIS PALMS AT THE HUNTINGTON BOTANICAL GARDENS IN CALIFORNIA. THE HYBRID SEEDS PRODUCED OFFSPRING THAT BECAME THE FIRST OFFICIAL xJUBAUTIA PALMS. PALM GURUS NOTICED SOME OTHER PALMS IN LOCAL PARKS LOOKED DIFFERENT THAT WERE SUBSEQUENTLY IDENTIFIED AS xJUBAUTIA HYBRIDS. IN 2002, THE HYBRID GENUS NAME xJUBAUTIA WAS USED FOR THE BUTIA ODORATA x JUBAEA CHILENSIS OR JUBAEA CHILENSIS x BUTIA ODORATA HYBRIDS, BUT THERE WAS NO GENUS NAME FOR EACH OF THE HYBRID SPECIES. TO ADDRESS THIS, HODEL ESTABLISHED THE HYBRID NAME xJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS AND ADDED THE GENUS FOR EACH ORDER OF BUTIA ODORATA AND JUBAEA CHILENSIS HYBRIDS (HODEL, PALMS VOL. 55(2) 2011). THE HYBRID BUTIA ODORATA x JUBAEA CHILENSIS WAS NAMED xJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS "DICK DOUGLAS." THE HYBRID JUBAEA x BUTIA ODORATA WAS NAMED xJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS "DON NELSON." DR. HODEL'S PUBLICATION ALSO PROVIDES PICTURES AND DETAILED INFORMATION INCLUDING A TABLE WITH COMPARISONS TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN PURE BUTIA - BUTIA ODORATA - xJUBAUTIA DICK DOUGLAS (Butia Odorata x Jubaea) - xJUBAUTIA "DON NELSON" (Jubaea x Butia Odorata. THIS PUBLICATION SUCCEEDS IN SHOWING PICTURES, NAMING HYBRIDS BETWEEN BUTIA ODORATA AND JUBAEA AND PROMOTING CORRECT IDENTIFICATION. BEING CURIOUS, WE RESEARCHED GENERAL ANCESTRY OF OUR BUTIA ODORATA HYBRID. BACKYARD PARADISE OFFSPRING HAVE THE SILVER BLUE OR BLUE COLOR THAT IS RARE AND SEEMS TO BE A COMMON DOMINANT TRAIT FOR xJUBAUTIA PALMS. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT COULD COME FROM THE BLUE COLOR OF BOTH ANCESTRAL PARENTS. WE RESEARCHED THE HISTORY OF OUR HYBRID STARTING WITH THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF OUR PARENT xJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS "DICK DOUGLAS." WE LEARNED THAT THIS LARGE SILVER BLUE PALM IS ABOUT 30 YEARS OLD AND CAME FROM EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. DR. MERRIL WILCOX, A RENOWN PALM EXPERT, WAS INVOLVED WITH THE PALM TREE EXPERIMENTATION IN THE 1970'S IN EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA (PERS COMM MERRIL WILCOX). HORTICULTURISTS EXPERIMENTED WITH CROSSING BUTIA X JUBAEA CHILENSIS OR JUBAEA CHILENSIS X BUTIA ODORATA FOR NEW HYBRID PALMS. DR. HODEL IN HIS PUBLICATION*, MENTIONS THESE EXPERIMENTAL PROJECTS THAT OCCURRED IN THE 1970’S. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT OUR xJUBAUTIA WAS INVOLVED IN THEIR EXPERIMENTATION AND ONE OF MANY PALMS SOLD TO PEOPLE IN THE TALLAHASSEE FLORIDA AREA.BASED ON RESEARCH, IT SEEMS POSSIBLE THAT THE ANCESTRAL XJUBAUTIA SPLENDENS (BUTIA ODORATA AND JUBAEA CHILENSIS) HYBRID PALMS ARE FOUND IN THE CENTRAL RIO GRANDE DO SUL AREA IN BRAZIL AND NEAR THE BORDER WITH URUGUAY. THERE ARE MANY PUBLICATIONS THAT SPEAK ABOUT THESE PALMS WHERE THEY ARE REFERRED TO AS THE “TRUE BIG BLUE BUTIA ODORATA PALMS” FROM URUGUAY (NOBLICK 2010), HAVING LARGE FRONDS WITH A FEATHER-LIKE APPEARANCE, BLUE COLORED LEAVES THAT RECURVE STRONGLY AND HANG DOWN TOWARD THE GROUND, MASSIVE TRUNKS WITH MUCH MORE FIBER, AND LARGE FRUITS. THE HYBRID FRUIT AND SEEDS LOOK UNUSUALLY LARGE PROBABLY DUE TO THE CULTIVATION FOR THE BEST FRUIT THAT IS A COMMODITY THERE IN THE BRAZIL AREA, AND CELEBRATED WITH FESTIVALS. BUTIA ODORATA FRUITS ARE VERY POPULAR AND ARE USED IN ICE CREAM AND IN THE LOCAL MOONSHINE MADE FROM SUGAR CANE TO GIVE IT A NUTTY FLAVOR! THE FRUIT IS ALSO POPULAR HERE IN THE US WITH RECIPES FOR TASTY TREATS INCLUDING JELLY THAT GIVES THE PALM IT’S NICKNAME “JELLY PALM.”SHIPPING NOTE: Please make sure your address on file with eBay is correct before you order. We usually ship plants on Mondays because of winter cold/summer heat conditions and we don't want the plants sitting in a truck/warehouse over the weekend. Your PayPal payment must clear before we can ship and our standard handling time can be as much as 15 days for special circumstances, but most palms are shipped before that time. Ask about combined shipping for smaller palms shipped bare root. Larger palms cannot be combined for shipping because they are very large and heavy and must be in their own 12 in by 12 in box. We do not ship to Hawaii, Alaska or International countries due to the time it takes for Customs to release the package for delivery. If you have any problems with checking out or with eBay's calculated shipping price then contact me before purchasing this plant so I can help. Thanks, Eric
